An afternoon of musical heaven

Worcester Editorial 24th Sep, 2017   0

THE critically-acclaimed BBC National Orchestra of Wales is returning to Worcester.

Renowned as one of the UK’s leading group of musicians, the orchestra will perform for a second time at the University of Worcester Arena on October 1 at 3pm.

Presented by the university, in association with the Autumn in Malvern Festival, the orchestra will play Benjamin Britten’s Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, along with Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto No.1 in G minor and Antonin Dvorak’s Symphony No 9 in E minor.

The orchestra will be conducted by Kazuki Yamada – the artistic director of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo who has just toured Japan with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.

The National Orchestra of Wales’ music can be heard on a number of popular BBC TV programmes, including its natural history unit’s Hidden Kingdoms, BBC Cymru Wales’ Atlantis and of course, Doctor Who.

Anne Hannaford, the university’s director of arts and culture, said: “We hope the timing of the concert makes it easier for families and people who are less able to get out in the evenings to come and enjoy an afternoon of very fine music, while regular concert-goers will be delighted to see well-loved pieces on the programme.”

Tickets for the concert cost £19 for adults, £5 for children, £9 for concessions and £38 for a family of two adults and two children. For details, call the university on 0844 8889991 or visit ticketline.co.uk/venue/university-of-worcester-arena
