All aboard as Worcestershire family’s train journey wish comes true

IT WAS full steam ahead for one lucky toddler after he won a special Christmas competition run by Malvern care home Elgar Court.

The home, in St Andrews Road, regularly celebrates a resident of the day in their care, but for the festive season decided to extend it to the wider community.

The result was its ‘Make A Wish this Christmas’ competition run in December and from the mound of entries they chose Maggie Hooper’s wish for a day out on a steam train on the Severn Valley Railway for her train-obsessed toddler.

Maggie said: “We spotted the competition on Facebook following a visit to Santa at Elgar Court Care Home last year.

“Naomi from Elgar Court arranged for us to not only get a train ride but to meet the Gruffalo, which luckily coincided with our youngest son’s first birthday.”

Maggie’s other wish was for the local food banks to receive funds to support them in the new year.

Elgar Court baked and decorated eight lavish Christmas cakes in the style of Christmas tree baubles, for the local food banks to give to families.
