Air ambulance flies in a fun day for all

CHARITY bosses at the Midlands Air Ambulance opened the doors of its Strensham airbase to thousands of supporters for an open day which raised almost £5,000.

The annual event saw the public meet the aircrew, see the air ambulance helicopter up close and browse pop-up shops whilst being entertained by a live band.

Celebrity guests, Irish heavyweight boxing legend, ‘Big Joe Egan’, actor and former British, European & World Kickboxing Champ, Waine Turner and former professional snooker player turned sports commentator, Willie Thorne, attended and were interviewed live about their extensive sporting careers.

The vital event in the charity’s calendar helps to raise vital funds and awareness of air ambulance operations across the region.

Around £7million is required each year to ensure the Midlands Air Ambulance can operate, which is provided wholly by the generosity of public and local businesses.

The money raised from this year’s event would be enough to fund two future lifesaving missions.

Michelle McCracken, fund-raising manager for the charity in Worcestershire, said: “Our airbase Open Days are always fun, family days out and this year was no exception.

“We have been commemorating our 25th anniversary throughout 2016 and this was the perfect way to involve our supporters in Worcestershire.

“Despite the weather, we raised more than last year and it’s testament to people’s unfaltering support.”

“We would like to thank everyone who came along and donated by purchasing merchandise or dropping change into a bucket, and the traders who attended and donated a sum of their profits.”
