Agency aims to aid siblings

AN adoption agency covering the West Midlands is looking to recruit parents who want to adopt siblings.

Siblings often have to wait longer to be placed than only children because of them wanting to stay together.

Adoption Central England (ACE), which is backing a national recruiting campaign, said it understands parents might have reservations about adopting sibling groups as it can be a big challenge.

But the agency pointed to a survey which found 61 per cent of adopters said they found adopting siblings to be ‘beneficial’.

Tina Russell, interim chief executive of Worcestershire Children First, said: “ACE provides continual support to adoptive families as they adjust their lives to offer a child, or children, lifelong homes.

“We are proud to support the national sibling adoption campaign, and use this opportunity to raise the understanding of the sibling relationship bond and the importance of keeping siblings together within the adoption process.

“Finding a loving and supportive home for vulnerable children is one of the most challenging tasks, but it is also one of the most rewarding ways to make a difference in a child’s life. I urge anyone interested in adopting to get in touch.”

All families who adopt through ACE receive lifetime support, ensuring they have access to therapeutic services, training and are given the chance to meet other families adopting for support.

ACE is interested in hearing from people looking to adopt sibling groups of three or more children.
