A LEADING Worcester group is getting set to take to the stage for a concert with a difference later this month.
Opera Worcester’s Saturday afternoon concerts of music with a serving of tea and cake have proved a highly successful formula for the society and has been a sell-out for the last three years.
The winning team, that brought two very successful opera productions to the Swan Theatre stage in recent years, have remained together to compile this year’s concert programme of ‘operatic treats’.
Opera Worcester’s Musical Director Sue Black leads the chorus and soloists and Director Andrew Rawle will provide the introductions and will also sing in the chorus.
Joy Reeve, Opera Worcester’s long serving pianist, who was recently awarded a NODA award for 50 years’ service, is the accompanist.
Chairman Caroline Causier said: “The programme this year reflects our recent move into Grand Opera with some fabulous choruses, including the well-known Easter Hymn from next year’s production of Cavalleria Rusticana, but we’ve also dipped back into a bit of operetta with music from The Merry Widow and Die Fledermaus.
“We are so very lucky to have someone like Joy to accompany who seems to be able to play whatever we ask of her!”
