A&E departments ‘extremely busy’

Worcester Editorial 9th Sep, 2015 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

ACCIDENT and Emergency departments across the county have experienced the highest amount of visitors over the weekend since November last year.

Worcestershire Royal Hospital was particularly busy on Saturday (September 5) and Sunday (September 6) causing the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust to urge people not to got there or to the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch unless they have a life threatening condition.

Patients are being asked to use alternative medical services, such as calling their own GP, using the 111 NHS advice line or visit Minor Injury Units such as Malvern, Bromsgrove, Evesham and Tenbury.

Rab McEwan, interim chief operating officer at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “The Accident and Emergency departments at both our hospitals have been extremely busy this weekend and we have experienced the highest number of attendances since November 2014.

“Despite this sudden increase our staff did a fantastic job, ensuring all patients were seen and treated as quickly as possible as we inevitably saw over-crowding in our A&E departments. We are working hard to understand the reasons behind this sudden surge.”
