A GAMBLING and mephedrone addict has been handed a conditional discharge after being caught stealing crisps and coca cola from a city centre bakery.

Craig Addison, of Henwick Road, went into Greggs on the High Street on June 5 and was seen taking the items, worth £1.80, before being chased by PCSO’s who caught him and recovered the goods, Worcester Magistrates Court heard last Friday (August 29).

The 32-year-old was given the order for 12 months and was also told to pay court costs of £85 and a £15 victim surcharge.

Defending solicitor David Ollivere said: “When interviewed by police in relation to these matters, he stated he needed help and the help he referred to was his use of the drug M-CAT and his addiction to gambling.

“The court will also note a deterioration of offences in recent times and this has been the only blip of recent times.”
