A WORCESTER theatrical youth section has raised £1,000 for a leisure club from its week-long performances at the Swan Theatre.

Worcester Operatic and Dramatic Society Youth Section’s (WODYS) recent production of Whistle Down The Wind raised the impressive amount of cash from raffles during the show intervals, which has been donated to its 2017 chosen charity, Perdiswell Young People’s Leisure Club.

The leisure club, in Droitwich Road, offers short holiday breaks and weekly youth club sessions for young people aged ten to 24, with disabilities, complex health needs and challenging behaviour.

Whistle Down the Wind saw 57 WODYS members, aged eight to 18, take to the stage at the Swan Theatre.

Over the years, WODYS’ performances have raised more than £23,500 for children’s charities.

Phil Weston, development manager at Perdiswell Young People’s Leisure Club, said: “On behalf of the young members of the club I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who contributed towards the £1,000.”

David Humphries, WODYS’ chairman and producer of Whistle Down The Wind, said: “I’m delighted at the generosity shown by our audiences.

“My sincere thanks go to everyone who bought a raffle ticket. I’m very pleased WODYS are able to donate £1,000 to our friends at Perdiswell Young People’s Leisure Club and hope the money will provide a way to bring a little extra sunshine into people’s lives.”
