£3.6million expansion set for Worcester college

A £3.6MILLION expansion of Christopher Whitehead Language College is set to begin as the school aims to take on more pupils.

The major project will see the creation of 28 classrooms, four offices and three new toilet blocks.

Ten temporary classrooms and two small brick buildings will be removed as part of the planned work.

The new wing will also feature a lift for disabled pupils.

Funding for the multi-million pound expansion has come from the Education Funding Agency, who are stumping up £1.6million and a grant from Worcestershire County Council worth £2.25million.

Any remaining cash left over from the project will be spent on upgrading the dining room, school security and pedestrian access.

Headteacher Neil Morris said the school was inspired to act after being approached by the county council to raise its admission numbers by 30 from September 2017 to tackle an expected shortfall in places.
