World class folk takes to stage

Worcester Editorial 10th May, 2017   0

WORCESTER residents are being invited to a night of traditional and world-class folk.

Channelling their diverse musical experiences into a powerful new sound, Kathryn Tickell and The Side will take to the stage at Huntingdon Hall next Wednesday (May 17).

The Side stay true to the spirit and essence of Kathryn’s own Northumbrian folk tradition, whilst unleashing the talent and creativity of each individual musician.

The band consists of Kathryn on the Northumbrian pipes and fiddle, Louisa Tuck on the cello, Ruth Wall on the harp and Amy Thatcher who as well as playing the accordion, clog dances.

Louisa is known for her performances with Principal Cellist and Oslo Filharmonien, whilst Ruth has played with Goldfrapp and Fitkin and Amy has worked with The Shee.

MOJO magazine described Kathryn Tickell and The Side as ‘organic, natural and utterly glorious’, whilst Songlines magazine praised the band for their ‘musical exuberance and regional rootedness’ and described their work as ‘music with originality, power and joy’.

In an intimate setting, the evocative slow airs that could break your heart move seamlessly into life-affirming jigs and reels, so come along to this breathtaking performance of unrivalled folk.

The event starts at 8pm and tickets cost £18.50.

Call the venue’s Box Office on 01905 611427 or visit www.worcesterlive.co.uk for more information.
