Southern street sound coming to city

Worcester Editorial 12th Nov, 2013 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

THE STREET sounds of New Orleans will be brought to Worcester when a popular blues band comes to the Marrs Bar next weekend.

Stomp & Holler, who feature four British Blues Award nominees, pull together the best Midlands musicians to showcase an array of brass, blues and talented voices, and will be in the city on Saturday, November 23 as part of their UK tour.

The band, led by Oliver Carpenter and Abby Brant, create a muscular sound reminiscent of the music of New Orleans, driven by rhythm section Chris Lomas and Martin Ball and guitar from ex Steve Gibbons Band star, Dave Carroll.

Blues Matters magazine said: “This band certainly captures the fun, colour and musical diversity of the New Orleans sound so rarely heard on these shores.”

“The musicianship is unsurpassable, and the songwriting is excellent.”

Stomp & Holler will be on stage at 9pm with advanced tickets costing £7, available from The Marrs Bar box office, online at www.marrsbar.co.uk or by phoning 01905 613336.
