Sinatra, Basie and all that jazz

Worcester Editorial 30th Oct, 2018   0

ONE of the world’s leading jazz singers comes to Worcester when Curtis Stigers takes to the stage at Huntingdon Hall.

Just over 50 years ago, magic was made on the stage of the Sands Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas when the timeless cool of Frank Sinatra met the robust swing of the Count Basie Orchestra.

Sinatra at the Sands has remained a classic ever since; the perfect marriage of old-school pop and big band jazz.

Stigers has been bringing those worlds together in his own music for the last three decades which makes him an ideal candidate to reinterpret Ol’ Blue Eyes’ repertoire for modern ears.

Speaking about his career, Stigers said: “What I like about what I do for a living is that it’s never boring. It’s always changing – from song to song, from gig to gig, from album to album. It’s always a surprise.”

The respected musician will be at Huntingdon Hall on Tuesday (November 6) from 7.30pm.

Tickets are £25 from the Box Office on 01905 611427.
