Rural classic is next at Swan

Worcester Editorial 31st May, 2017   0

THE WORCESTER Repertory Company, in collaboration with the University of Worcester, will present its new production of Cider With Rosie at the Swan Theatre from next Tuesday to Saturday, June 10.

Starring Jon Darby as Laurie Lee and Liz Grand as Mother, and with music by one of the most accomplished folk musicians this country has ever produced, John Kirkpatrick, this touching story is told through the eyes of a young boy growing up.

Poet and author Laurie Lee was born in 1914 and grew up in the small Cotswold village of Slad during a time of change, when the rural traditions of past centuries were being swept aside in the path of twentieth-century progress.

His autobiography Cider with Rosie has become a modern classic and now James Roose-Evans has skilfully and imaginatively adapted it for the stage.

Generously sponsored by the University of Worcester and Bransford Trust, this sensational stage production will celebrate the 1959 book that has sold more than six million copies worldwide.

The event starts at 7.30pm each evening and includes a 2pm matinée on Saturday.

Tickets cost £16 for adults, £15 for concessions and £10 for students.

Call the theatre’s Box Office on 01905 611427 or visit www.worcesterlive.co.uk for more information.
