Music to put you on top of the world

Worcester Editorial 10th Sep, 2014 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

A STUNNING two hour show recreating and celebrating the music from one of the world’s most popular duos, The Carpenters, is coming to Huntingdon Hall in Worcester next week.

The show, called Voice of the Heart – Karen Carpenter, takes place on Friday, September 19 at 8pm, with Carole Gordon providing a vocal that is uncannily close to that of Karen Carpenter.

Producer Bob Newman joins the band on bass guitar and backing vocals.

Carole and Bob, partners both in life and artistically and the joint creators of the show, have been making music for many years.

In their early career they toured with Tammy Wynette both in the UK and America, and were voted Top British Duo by the British Country Music Association on three occasions.

Successful appearances on TV have seen them featured on BBC Breakfast and they have made countless other appearances on BBC Two’s Sing Country, which showed the talented twosome on the Wembley Stage amongst many star names, both from home and abroad.

As well as hits such as Close To You, Goodbye To Love, Yesterday Once More, and Only Yesterday, the show also includes lesser known songs from the group’s many albums.

The show features songs by The Beatles, which were covered by the Carpenters, such as Please Mr Postman, Ticket To Ride and Help, as well as a superb Bacharach and David medley featuring renditions of Do You Know The Way To San Jose and Always Something There To Remind Me, to name but two of their legendary hits.

A Carpenters country medley featuring Top Of The World, Sweet Sweet Smile and Jambalaya will also feature, as a contrast to the sad and perhaps most popular songs from her last and most poignant album, Voice Of The Heart.

With superb vocals from Carole Gordon and the outstanding talent of the Blue Jeans Band and Singers, this musical evening is guaranteed to take Carpenters fans everywhere on a magical musical journey.

Tickets cost £18.50 and can be bought from the box office on 01905 611427.
