McElderry set for special appearance in county

FORMER X Factor winner Joe McElderry is to perform in Evesham next year, it has been announced.

The South Shields born star, who rose to fame in 2009 when we has crowned the winner of the ITV show beating Olly Murs in the final, will take to the stage at the Evesham Arts Centre on March 5.

The singer/songwriter, who hit number one in the UK Singles Chart with his debut record ‘The Climb’, will perform his ‘Set Your Soul Alive’ tour show which sees the star perform classical versions of a set of rock and pop songs live and unplugged.

His show in Evesham will be the tour’s second date and one of just two performances in the West Midlands.




Following his debut album ‘Wide Awake’, McElderry returned to the TV screens becoming the triumphant winner of of ‘Pop Star to Opera Star in 2011. He later released his second album ‘Classic’ which went to number 2 in the UK Albums Chart.

McElderry is part of a talented line-up of stars to perform at the Victoria Avenue building as it announced its Spring programme.


Other big names include talented stand-up comedian Josh Widdicombe, top tribute group Stayin’ Alive who are dedicated to performing the music from The Bee Gee’s, accomplished cellist Jonathan Dormund, former ‘Never Mind The Buzzcocks’ team captain Sean Hughes and well-known spiritualist Colin Fry.

Keith Norledge, Evesham Arts Centre organiser, said:  “We’re very pleased to be bringing more big names to town.

“With acts ranging from Joe McElderry, Phill Jupitus, Colin Fry and Josh Widdicombe to the Vienna Festival Ballet, our aim is to put Evesham on the map as an entertainment destination.”
