Make appointment with this deeply moving play

Worcester Editorial 17th Jun, 2017   0

TALENTED members of the Swan Theatre Amateur Company (STAC) will take to the stage for their latest production at the Swan’s Vesta Tilley studio.

Duet for One by Tom Kempinski is the latest in a line of hit performances for the passionate city group and will run from Tuesday to next Saturday, June 24.

Stephanie Anderson, an eminent violinist struck down with multiple sclerosis, takes her husband’s advice and consults psychiatrist Dr Feldmann to help her adjust to her new life which has been deprived of purpose.

This deeply moving play unfolds as a series of their appointments, moving through conflicting moods and emotions as their relationship shifts to reveal fascinating aspects of their personalities.

It is based on the fate of world-famous cellist Jacqueline Du Pre who suffered the same cruel deprivation.

A serious subject it is true, but the play is shot through with dark humour, shocks and a surprising optimism as Stephanie fights to retain her dignity, pride and wicked sense of humour; she is no victim.

Tickets priced at £10 (£8 concessions) are available through Worcester Live Box Office on 01905 611427.

Theatre lovers can also pick up tickets from The Swan Theatre 45 minutes before the start of each performance for that night’s show, if still available.
