LEGENDARY Leigh Sinton entrepreneur and promoter John Banner has revealed a series of concerts to mark his upcoming 81st birthday.
John, currently living in Malvern, has finally decided it is time to retire from retiring and to mark the occasion the Worcester and Malvern Observer has teamed up with him for a special offer.
The entertainment entrepreneur has arranged a series of concerts at Huntingdon Hall which he has chosen to call ‘The Final Four’ and is offering all readers the opportunity to receive one free ticket to each – starting with the Pete Boddis Country Band’s Country Showcase concert next Sunday (January 22) from 3pm..
All you have to do is cut out and retain the special ‘token’ from the page in our paper and take it to the Huntingdon Hall box office or call the venue on 01905 611427 with the token reference number at hand, and you will be able to get the ‘fourth’ ticket free when you pay for three.
You can also, if you prefer, call John on 07780 671442 and quote the special number – and he will do the necessary on your behalf.
John, who was born at the foot of the stairs at home on Suckley Road said: “I was told many years later, I was so small I was put in a shoe box by the local nurse – who happened to live a stone’s throw away – and my mum was told I would not last the night”
“Here we are 80 plus years later and I intend making the concert on April 8 my last ever concert – on my last day as an 80-year-old!
John is well known for retiring, having done so on a number of occasions and now says at every concert, when up on stage saying hello to the audience, that one of the days it will be his last concert – and, as he says at the moment, this is it!
He has been involved in promotion ever since he put on his first public event, whilst still at Worcester Royal Grammar School as an 11-year-old, a Whist Drive to raise funds for the British Red Cross, in 1954 . In the ensuing years he has been involved with many top names in the entertainment world. Jerry Lee Lewis, The Searchers, Craig Douglas, Frank Ifield and Jimmy Young to name just a few.
“It is definitely my last concert on a regular basis – I have been organising them at Huntingdon Hall and the Swan Theatre since 2003 – nearly 200 in 20 years if I include those I have done elsewhere,” John added.
If these do prove to be John’s last concerts ever, don’t miss this opportunity to be able to say ‘I was there’
