Fairport Convention ready to rock

Worcester Editorial 20th May, 2014 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

LEGENDARY folk-rock outfit, Fairport Convention, will welcome the return of their longest-serving member on bass guitar when the band visits Worcester’s Huntingdon Hall this week.

Dave Pegg will take to the stage with fellow band members Simon Nicol (vocals, guitar), Ric Sanders (violin), Chris Leslie (mandolin, fiddle, vocals) and Gerry Conway (percussion) on Friday (May 23) at 8pm.

Earlier in the year, Dave’s son Matt had to stand in as bassist when Pegg senior badly injured his hand in a kitchen accident but he’s now back and raring to go.

Their semi-acoustic spring tour will have an intimate feel and the concerts will feature a mix of new songs and long-established favourites from the Fairport repertoire.

Formed in 1967’s ‘summer of love’ and hailed as the originators of British folk-rock music, Oxfordshire-based Fairport Convention is one of the most enduring groups to have emerged from the 60s music scene, having been playing for nearly fifty years and yet remaining as vibrant and inventive as ever.

Tickets cost £20 and are available from the Box Office on 01905 611427.
