Drumming up an electrifying evening

Worcester Editorial 13th May, 2014 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016

THUNDERING rhythms, exciting choreography and electrifying energy are set to light up Worcester later this week.

Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers will be bringing their incredible new show to the Swan Theatre on Friday (May 16) at 7.30pm as part of their 2014 UK Tour.

With performers banging huge taiko drums, mysterious masked choreography, dramatic lighting, muscular synchronisation timed to perfection, post-apocalyptic imagery, and infectious belly laugh humour, their latest show offers a spellbinding display of pure energy and sheer athleticism.

Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers are the UK’s longest established taiko ensemble, and the most successful touring taiko drum group on this continent.

Having clocked up over 1,000 performances across the UK, Japan & Europe over the last decade alone, Mugenkyo have established themselves firmly at the forefront of taiko drumming.

They have developed a spectacular, passionate style, fusing the traditional spirit of taiko with a contemporary look and sound, and creating a modern stage performance that has captivated audiences everywhere.

Last year alone the Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers thrilled audiences at over 80 venues across the UK.

2014 is an important year for the group who will be celebrating 20 years of performing in the UK since they were established by Neil Mackie and Miyuki Williams back in 1994, on their return to the UK following two years of rigorous training in Japan with premiere taiko master Masaaki Kurumaya Sensei.

Literally translating as ‘limitless reverberation’, Mugenkyo certainly live up to their name. Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to catch them live at the Swan Theatre.

Tickets cost £20 or £14 for concessions.
