Countdown to Concert of Legends is on

Worcester Editorial 5th Sep, 2017 Updated: 5th Sep, 2017   0

MUSIC lovers from across the county are expected to flock to New Road this weekend for the 2017 Concert of Legends.

A packed crowd of around 4,000 people are expected at the event on Saturday, September 9 from 1pm to 11pm.

Stars such as Billy Ocean, Paul Carrack, Bob Geldof and the Boomtown Rats and Ray Lewis will be taking to the stage for the concert organised by SC Entertainments and Worcestershire CCC.

This year’s event follows on from a sensational debut event in 2016 which saw UB40 headline on a packed afternoon and evening at New Road.

Worldwide superstar Billy Ocean is the one of the biggest recording star Britain has ever produced with 30 million records in his lifetime.

Billy has achieved extraordinary success as both an artist and a songwriter with songs such as Love Really Hurts Without You, When the Going gets Tough and Get Outta My Dreams; Get Into My Car.

Legendary Sheffield-born singer, songwriter and former frontman of Ace, Squeeze and Mike and The Mechanics, Paul Carrack is the second legend to be performing live.

With a back-catalogue of hits to his name including How Long, Tempted and The Living

Years, Paul’s uniquely soulful voice is a must for his millions of fans around the world.

His amazing songs have been performed by some of the biggest names in music including The Eagles, Diana Ross and Tom Jones.

Across four decades, countless Carrack performances have quietly made their mark on the collective consciousness.

When Mike Rutherford of Genesis formed his side project Mike and the Mechanics, Paul shared vocals with Paul Young and Carrack wrote and sang on many of their biggest tracks, none more so than The Living Years.

Boomtown Rats Bob Geldof, Simon Crowe, Garry Roberts, and Pete Briquette continue their comeback with a must-see performance.

The original Rats broke up in 1986, but reformed in 2013, without Johnnie Fingers or Gerry Cott.

Since 2013, the Rats have enjoyed sell out tours in the UK and Europe and are now a regular feature on the festival circuit.

One of the most successful soul/disco acts of the era, Odyssey, will be bringing their classic hits such as Native New Yorker, Use It Up and Going Back To My Roots to New Road.

Their fusion of soul, pop, dance, jazz, funk and latin-caribbean rhythms continue to make them popular around the world.

Legend and former lead singer from The Drifter, Ray Lewis will also be on hand to recreate the sounds of Motown for which he was famously known for.

As one of the biggest selling bands of all time, The Drifters have collated a huge catalogue of more than fifty hits, including timeless classics such as Saturday Night at the Movies, Up on the Rood and Kissing In The Back Row of the Movies.
