THE NEW president of a Worcester theatrical group has revealed her joy at taking the helm after spending more than 20 years working with the group’s wardrobe team.
Christina Humphries has put away her needles and pins in her new role as Worcester Operatic and Dramatic Society’s (WODS) president.
Having joined in 1969 at the age of 13, Mrs Humphries has appeared in 35 shows and has worked closely with WODS’ youth section, WODYS.
WODYS are currently preparing for their summer show of Whistle Down the Wind, where 57 members, aged 8 to 18, will perform at the Swan Theatre from Tuesday, August 1 to Thursday, August 5.
The show’s director and producer is David Humphries, who is Christina’s husband of 43 years.
“I was very proud and honoured to be elected as WODS’ president and I’m very much enjoying the role,” Mrs Humphries said.
“I’m particularly pleased as this is my first WODYS show as president. However, it will feel a little strange as I’m normally heavily involved with the wardrobe team for WODYS.
“I’m currently the wardrobe mistress for WODS, a role which I ‘ve done since 2006.
During my time with WODS, I’ve also worked as a member of the props team and even had a go at choreography.
“In 1972, I met David through WODS and we now have two sons, who have also been members of WODYS and WODS, and three grandchildren who are currently involved with WODYS.
“My sincere thanks go to our dedicated teams both on and off the stage. Many have spent a tremendous amount of time and effort in producing this exciting production.
“I would also like to thank our audiences for their continued support and I’m sure Whistle Down The Wind will be a thoroughly enjoyable show,” she added.
