WORCESTER Cathedral is hosting an event to raise money for the John Paul Hoskins Choral Scholar Appeal.
An Evening with the Choral Scholars is a special and intimate celebration of musical talent, set in the beautiful surroundings of the Old Palace.
Guests are invited to enjoy a memorable evening of choral and solo performances by Worcester Cathedral’s choral scholars, alongside personal reflections that bring their musical journeys to life.
The event offers a unique opportunity to hear from musicians who represent the future of choral music, and to learn how charitable support can help nurture the next generation of talent.
Funds raised through this event will go towards the John Paul Hoskins Choral Scholar Appeal, established in tribute to the Cathedral’s former Precentor, whose lifelong love of and commitment to cathedral music left a lasting legacy.
The appeal aims to raise £45,000 to launch a new funding programme that will guarantee the appointment of one choral scholar, each academic year for the next six years, beginning this September.
Support for music at Worcester Cathedral is also being championed this weekend by a group of the Cathedral’s choristers, who are taking on the challenge of the AJ Bell Junior and Mini Great Birmingham Run.
They are raising funds for both Worcester Cathedral and the Worcester Cathedral Choristers Association (WCCA).
The WCCA plays a vital role in the mission and ministry of the Cathedral, supporting the Cathedral Choir, Voluntary Choir, and Youth Choir, as well as providing assistance to choristers and their families.
The runners hope to raise at least £750, which will be split equally between the WCCA and the wider Cathedral music team, helping to support the areas of greatest need.
The concert takes place at 7pm on May 21 at the Old Palace.
