Worcester play area revamped for year-round fun

CHILDREN in Worcester can now enjoy the popular Waverley Street play area all-year-round after refurbishments of it were completed, writes Ellie Taylor.

Worcester City Council has installed a brand new safety surface after the previous grass matting was close to wearing out.

The new robust rubber surface is long-lasting and improves children’s safety, using a cushioned layer to reduce the impact of falls.

Coun Hannah Cooper, vice-chair of Worcester City Council’s place and economic development committee, said: “This upgrade means Waverly Street play area can continue to be enjoyed for many years to come.

“Until now, areas around some of the popular equipment were getting muddy when it rained but with the new safety surfacing, we have ensured that families can make full use of the play facilities in the wetter months.”

Funded through planning-related developer contributions, the £32,336 project is part of the wider Worcester Play Plan.

This programme is completing enhanced play provision throughout Worcester and has carried out improvements at 11 parks including Cripplegate Park and Gheluvelt Park.
