NEXT year marks 375 years since the Battle of Worcester – the decisive clash that brought the English Civil War to its close on September 3 1651.
To support the heritage around this, Visit Worcestershire is launching a Civil War Commemoration Fund.
The fund, which will cover grants up to £2,000, will help businesses, community organisations and heritage partners to deliver high‑quality, bookable experiences or events that celebrate this important anniversary and contribute to Worcestershire’s wider Visit Historic Worcestershire campaign.
Lorna Robinson, Visitor Economy Manager at Visit Worcestershire, said: “This anniversary is a chance to tell Worcestershire’s story on a national stage.
“Worcestershire is the original home of democracy, and we should be shouting about that. This fund is designed to encourage businesses and communities to come forward with ideas that celebrate our history in imaginative and inclusive ways.”
Coun Alan Amos, Cabinet Member for Business and Skills at Worcestershire County Council, said: “The Battle of Worcester was a defining moment in British history.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to honour our heritage, attract visitors, and boost the local economy. By the end of the summer, we want everyone to know their Roundheads from their Cavaliers.”
Visit Worcestershire, together with partners including Museums Worcestershire and Worcester BID, is preparing a series of activities to mark the anniversary as part of a wider Summer of Heritage programme.
Applications for Round One of the Civil War 375 Grant Scheme close on January 16 2026.
Round Two (subject to funding) closes on February 13 2026.
