Worcester Cathedral launches its Christmas Appeal

WORCESTER Cathedral has launched a Christmas appeal to raise vital funds for its upkeep.

As it prepares to welcome thousands of visitors to its Christmas Tree Festival, Christmas Eve crib services, festive services and concerts this December, the cathedral is asking for the community’s support in the form of donations and messages of hope.

Bishop Olivia Graham, interim dean of Worcester, said: “This Christmas, I want to offer you and those you love an open invitation to Worcester Cathedral – a place where hope shines brightest. Our doors are wide open for everyone – whether you come often or have never stepped inside before, you will be welcomed as friends.

“My deepest hope is that this season brings moments of peace, connection, and shared joy. In a world that can feel uncertain, the cathedral stands as a beacon of light – a calm, safe space for those who need comfort, and a vibrant home for celebration and faith.

“Christmas here is always special, but this year we long for it to be a time of renewal and promise. Our team of staff and volunteers has prepared a programme of services and events designed to lift hearts and remind us all that hope is never lost. From the candlelit Advent Procession on November 30 to the Epiphany service on January 11, every gathering is an opportunity to rediscover the meaning of Christmas.

“One of the most cherished traditions will be our community Christmas tree, adorned with prayers and messages from across the community. This year’s theme, ‘A Promise of Hope’, invites you to share words that can encourage someone who feels alone or weary. Your message might be the spark that lights another person’s Christmas.

“If you are able, we would be grateful for any support to help keep the cathedral warm and welcoming through the season. Every gift, no matter the size, helps us remain a place where hope can flourish.”
