Recruits needed to make more good things happen in Dines Green, Worcester

A COMMUNITY group has appealed for new recruits to come forwards and help to make good things happen in Dines Green in Worcester.

The second annual Dinesfest community day, billed as an afternoon of affordable fun and activities for locals of all ages, took place last month at Honeywell Primary School after months of planning by a team of local residents, raising a total of £1774 on the day.

The group’s newly-elected chairperson said that the Dinesfest Community Group wants to put on a rolling programme of activities and festivities for the neighbourhood and called for locals who have enjoyed their events over the past couple of years to come forwards and help with future plans.

Kim Price said: “We want to see more events and activities here on the Green. All the money we raise at these events goes straight back into the next one with the aim of bringing something different each year. We would love to get more volunteers, new skills and ideas on board in time for Dinesfest does Christmas.”

Sara-Kay Baker from Worcester Community Trust congratulated the resident-led team.

She continued: “The Dinesfest group has planned, coordinated and successfully delivered three swimming pool parties, a walking car boot and the Dinesfest Community Day over the course of five months. What a great achievement.”

Dinesfest’s founder Rachael Hodgetts thanked Coun Richard Udall for his commitment to helping the group bring more fun to Dines Green.

She added: “Coun Udall has been a good friend and advisor to Dinesfest and the group would not have got off the ground without his backing.

“City councillors for Dines Green and Grove Farm have helped too, besides local churches and the Family Hub, and Honeywell (formerly known as Dines Green Primary) has played host for the group’s main festivities. But it’s a body of amazing individuals from the neighbourhood who are at the helm and make all this happen.

“They are great assets to the area and hopefully their dedication to Dines Green will inspire others.”
