A PLAY area in Worcester which suffered an arson attack earlier this year is set for a revamp.
Worcester City Council is to invest £30,027 to replace the toddlers play equipment destroyed by vandals at Field Walk Play Area, along with a climbing frame that has reached the end of its lifespan.
Two new climbing frames will be installed – one designed for toddlers and another for older children, with each featuring a slide and climbing challenges.
A smaller piece of play equipment, a four-way springer, will also be installed, designed to help improve children’s spatial awareness and their sense of balance.
The ground safety flooring will also be improved.
Weather permitting, work at Field Walk Play Area will start early in 2026 and will be completed ready for late spring.
Coun Robyn Norfolk, Chair of Worcester City Council’s Place and Economic Development Committee, said: “I’m so pleased that Field Walk Play Area will soon have brand-new equipment for local families to enjoy.
“It’s wonderful that they can now look forward to having a safe and fun space to enjoy again.
“This project is part of our Worcester City Play Plan, which is all about making sure children and young people across our city have exciting places to play, explore, and spend time together.”
The city council is responsible for 47 play areas across Worcester and continuously works to maintain and improve the facilities.
As part of the Play Plan, this summer saw the opening of a new half-court basketball facility in Cripplegate Park and the ‘Play on the Way’ facility between Cranham Drive and Chedworth Close in the Warndon area of the city.
Work is also starting this autumn to refurbish the Old Tolladine play area.
In 2026 the new pump track next to Perdiswell Leisure Centre will be installed. It will be the second pump track in the city boundary and comes following the success of the track at Battenhall Park.
