FREE tennis is being served up in Worcester.
Residents can take advantage of free access to courts at two city parks on selected days.
The tennis courts will be available to book for free at Cripplegate Park and Gheluvelt Park.on Wednesdays from July 16 to August 13 between 5pm and 8pm.
At the weekend, they can also be booked for free on Saturdays and Sundays from July 19 to August 17, between 2pm and 6pm.
In total there will be 385 hours of free courts – funded by Worcester City Council.
Last year the initiative was a great success with 94 per cent of the free court time being used.
Coun Jabba Riaz, chair of Worcester City Council’s communities committee, said: “We’re thrilled to offer 385 hours of free tennis for everyone in the city.
“This initiative is designed to encourage people of all ages and skill levels to get active, try out tennis, and enjoy the fantastic facilities we have on offer at Cripplegate Park and Gheluvelt Park.
“We hope this will inspire a new generation of tennis players – perhaps some future Wimbledon champions will be practising right here in Worcester.
“It was brilliant to see such a great turnout for the sessions last year, and we’re expecting the courts to be just as popular this time around.
“Court booking is essential, and free reservations can be made at www.clubspark.lta.org.uk/FreedomLeisureTennis.”
In total, five courts at Cripplegate Park and two courts at Gheluvelt Park will be available during these free hours. The initiative is being delivered in partnership with Freedom Leisure.
