A MAJOR milestone in the transformation of Worcester’s Shrub Hill Quarter has begun.
Demolition work kicked off this week to reshape the city’s gateway into a modern, vibrant destination.
The outdated blue corrugated unit and brick tower on the Shrub Hill Industrial Estate is being removed.
This work, supported by the government’s Brownfield Land Release Fund, paves the way for a dynamic new district, delivering much-needed homes, public spaces, and new jobs.
Coun Alan Amos, Worcestershire County Council’s cabinet member for business and skills, said: “This is more than just clearing old buildings, it’s about unlocking a once-in-a-generation opportunity to create something extraordinary for Worcester. Shrub Hill Quarter will become a place where people want to live, work, and spend time. This next step brings us closer to a bold new future for the city.”
The demolition and site clearance will take up to eight weeks. For safety, temporary closures of the nearby footpath and parts of the road network will be in place. This includes a closure of the path from the main entrance of Shrub Hill Industrial Estate to the pedestrian crossing, which is also being upgraded as part of wider public realm improvements.
Clear signage and diversion routes will be in place to keep disruption to a minimum, and businesses in the area will remain open as usual.
The Shrub Hill Quarter regeneration is being led by WCC, Worcester City Council, and the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership, with a shared vision to breathe new life into this key area of the city.
When complete, the Shrub Hill Quarter will offer over 500 new homes, up to 5,000 jobs, attractive public spaces, and improved transport connections.
