The Shakespeare Express vintage steam rail tour called at Worcester as it completed its first outing

Worcester Editorial 8th Apr, 2025   0

THE POPULAR Shakespeare Express has completed its first outing of the new running season by calling at Stratford, writes Neil Gordon.

The train was heading from Worcester to Stratford-on-Avon while being hauled by steam locomotive 7029 Clun Castle when it visited the town on Sunday, April 6, during the 40th anniversary of the train’s inaugural run.

The train also called at Stourbridge Junction and Birmingham Snow Hill before arriving in Stratford-on-Avon for a break of around four hours to enable passenger’s time to enjoy sightseeing and shopping, before commencing the return journey.

A class 37 diesel locomotive, number 37240, also hauled the train from Birmingham to Worcester in the morning and back to Birmingham in the evening working its first passenger service since 1996.
