A WORCESTER man has been jailed for 21 years for the attempted murder of his wife.

Robert Mazanik, aged 49, of Broad Lea Close, appeared at Worcester Crown Court.

The 49-year-old pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm, but following a four-day trial was found guilty of attempted murder. As well as the 21-year term, he was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £187.

The incident happened on September 21 last year when officers responded to a 999 call reporting that Mazanik had stabbed his wife.

When police arrived at the property on Broad Lea Close, they found his wife in the bath with stab wounds to her body and to her neck.

Mazanik was swiftly arrested and later charged with attempted murder.

Det Sgt Louise Sutton, who led the investigation, said: “I welcome this verdict and sentence for Mazanik.

“Although it will not take away the pain and suffering of the victim, I hope it will provide her with some comfort in knowing he is now being punished.

“The violent actions of Mazanik will simply not be tolerated and I hope this will demonstrate that we will do everything we can to seek justice for victims to ensure our communities feel safe and criminals are punished.”
