Worcester to mark Covid-19 Day of Reflection

Worcester Editorial 5th Mar, 2025   0

WORCESTER is set to commemorate the Covid-19 Day of Reflection in memory of those lost and to honour the many sacrifices made by others, writes Maya Evans.

Marking five years since the outbreak of the pandemic, the event is due to take place at midday on tomorrow (Saturday, March 8) on the steps of the Guildhall.

Worcester residents are invited to attend and join many others across the UK in recognising this important day.

Coun Mel Alcott, the Mayor of Worcester, will give a short speech which will then be followed by a minute’s silence. The Guildhall will also be lit up yellow during the week leading up to the Day of Reflection.

Addressing the significance of the Covid-19 Day of Reflection, Coun Alcott said: “It’s a time to unite in remembrance of those lost since the start of the pandemic and to acknowledge the relentless dedication and acts of kindness that defined that challenging period.”

An online book of remembrance has been set up for those who lived in the UK and died as a result of the pandemic. Residents are encouraged to leave messages about the loved ones they lost.

Nationally, the Covid-19 Day of Reflection takes place on Sunday, March 9.
