King's Worcester among top 200 sporting schools in the country

KING’S Worcester has scored a place in the top 200 sporting schools in the country.

The school was ranked 119 by School Sport Magazine, which evaluates schools based on their success across 20 different sports and over 120 events.

This means King’s is in the top four per cent in the country when it comes to sports.

It is the only school in Worcester to feature in the top 200, with only one other school in Worcestershire, Bromsgrove School, included on the list.

Acting head Dr Alison Oliver said: “We are extremely happy to receive this recognition for our sports provision. It is a tremendous achievement that reflects the dedication of our staff and the remarkable sporting accomplishments of our pupils.

“We are proud that alongside our outstanding sports offering, our pupils benefit from our holistic education which includes a rich and varied academic curriculum, a renowned arts programme and an extensive range of co-curricular activities.”

Foundation director of sport Jonny Mason added: “For a city-centre day school, the sporting ethos, provision and achievement offered at King’s Worcester are outstanding. We are committed to providing pupils of all abilities with access to a wide range of sports, with the possibility for many to compete at a high level – a phenomenal 147 King’s Worcester pupils are currently in county academies or England talent pathways across five sports.”

The recognition follows King’s Worcester’s recent inclusion in the top ten national ranking for academic performance for the fourth consecutive year. The school was named one of the Top Ten Independent Secondary Schools in the West Midlands by the Sunday Times’ Parent Power 2025 Schools Guide.
