Worcester kids to go global with Bike Bus Sticker swap

Worcester Editorial 9th Dec, 2024 Updated: 9th Dec, 2024   0

Bike Worcester has launched a unique initiative to connect young cyclists across the globe.

The ‘Bike Bus Around-The-World Sticker Swap’, invites primary school children to design stickers that capture their love for their journeys to school – by bike, scooter, or skateboard.

This project encourages children from across the globe to share their experience of these journeys through art, with their creations being printed and shared with Bike Bus participants both in Worcester and internationally.

Its culmination will be a world-first sticker exchange at the 2025 Global Bike Bus Summit, where children’s artwork will be showcased and swapped with fellow Bike Bus volunteers from around the world.

A spokesperson for Bike Worcester said: “We’re incredibly excited about this project. It’s a fantastic opportunity for children to connect with their peers worldwide and share their passion for walking, wheeling and rolling to school.

“The scheme is designed to foster creativity, strengthen the links that Worcester has within the global Bike Bus community, and inspire even more children to experience the joy of riding and scooting.”

Bike Buses support and encourage children and their parents to cycle to school each week on an organised route. Volunteer leaders, who are often parents, coordinate the groups setting off safely and crossing at junctions, which gives families a safe space and confidence to cycle together.

Worcester is the host city for the World Bike Bus Summit in April 2025, which is expected to attract visitors from North America, Europe and other towns and cities in the UK.

The summit is a grassroots initiative organised by Bike Bus volunteers from around the world to enable and encourage collaboration, knowledge exchange and connections.

Its purpose is to create networks between advocates, ensuring Bike Buses continue to grow, creating energy and demand for politicians and decision makers to invest in safe routes for children.

The initiative is open to all primary school children, regardless of whether they currently participate in Bike Buses.

Bike Worcester is promoting the Bike Bus Summit and building on the links between volunteers in Worcester and those from other cities and countries around the world.

By encouraging participation from all young people Bike Worcester aims to promote the many benefits of active travel, from physical and mental well-being to building community and contributing to a more sustainable environment.

Sticker designs need to be submitted before online December 24 to be included. See bikeworcester.org.uk/bikebus/sticker-swap for more information.
