PICTURE SPECIAL: Victorian Fayre signals the starts of Christmas in Worcester

DICKENS wouldn’t have felt out of place in Worcester as the city finally got into the Christmas spirit with the Victorian Fayre.

Tens of thousands of visitors enjoyed all the sights and sounds of a Victorian Christmas with costumed characters, street magicians, stilt walkers wandering among the crowds, and a traditional fun fair.

There were also almost 200 stalls.

Taking place over four days between Thursday November 28 and Sunday December 1, the festive event signalled the true start of Christmas in the city after the lights switch-on was cancelled the previous weekend due to the adverse weather conditions.

This year there was also a green message to the event, which has been running since 1992, with fayre goers encouraged to take the bus or park and ride into the city.

Worcester mayor Coun Mel Allcott, said: “A long-term success, the Victorian Fayre brings visitors in from far and wide and is the perfect opportunity to showcase Worcester. I was so excited to see our Victorian-themed city with all the entertainment, the hospitality, the wares and my personal favourite, the carousel.”
