Gift drive to support Worcester's most vulnerable this Christmas

A CHRISTMAS gift campaign is hoping to spread a little festive joy to those most in need in Worcester.

The Under the Tree gift drive invites businesses and residents to donate items which can be distributed to the homeless and the most vulnerable children in the city.

The campaign runs until December 16 and is a collaborative effort between charities Kinship and Maggs Day Centre, as well as Worcester Business Improvement District and Worcester Cathedral.

Sam McCarthy, CEO of Worcester BID, said: “Every year thousands come to view the sparkling trees within the cathedral cloisters bringing delight to visitors, however for many Christmas isn’t full of joy with eyes lighting up on Christmas morning.

“This year think about how we as a community can change what’s under the tree for many this year. Instead of Secret Santa with your colleagues, why not be a Secret Santa for a child in need who would be over the moon to receive a gift this Christmas or to support someone who has found themselves in a troubled position of rough sleeping, bring them warmth and essentials to help their day to day lives.”

Children’s gifts such as toys, books and games can be dropped off at Worcester Cathedral, Barclays Bank, The Studio and Howden Insurance.

Practical items for rough sleepers including warm clothing, blankets, toiletries and non-perishable food can be taken to collection points at The Cardinal’s Hat in Friar Street and Maggs Day Centre.
