A GREEN-focused construction training facility is taking shape in Worcester.
Building Block 2 will provide opportunities for the local community to learn skills in green construction techniques and is being built next to The Green Hub community centre in Dines Green.
It will consist of a workshop, classroom, reception space, toilets and storeroom.
Building work started in July and contractors Barnwood Ltd have completed the main structure of the building, which is A-rated for energy efficiency, and are currently laying the floor. The new facility is expected to open in spring 2025.
The project, part of the Worcester Town Investment Plan, is funded by the Government following a successful bid by Worcester City Council.
It builds on the success of the first Building Block in Shap Drive, next to the Warndon Hub community centre, which has seen hundreds of people learn new construction skills.
Coun Jabba Riaz, chair of the City Council’s communities committee said: “Our Town Investment Plan aims to expand the training facilities and opportunities available at existing community centres.
“The community centres play an important role in supporting Worcester’s communities, bringing residents of all ages together and providing learning opportunities.
“It’s brilliant to see the Building Block 2 training building taking shape, bringing more opportunities for people to gain new skills
“We hope that Building Block 2 will support the needs of the construction industry in Worcester and help people to learn the skills that are needed for the green economy.”
The training centre will be leased to Worcester Community Trust, which operates the existing Building Block facility and six community hubs in the city on behalf of the City Council.
GLP Training, a nationally recognised apprenticeship training provider, currently providing training at the Building Block, will also deliver training from Building Block 2.
