COLLEAGUES laced up their hiking boots for a 20-mile walk from Worcester to Evesham to bank cash for a local military charity,
And to make it extra challenging, the nine fearless fundraisers from Rooftop Housing Group carried a combined weight of 40kg – a weight a soldier might bear in fitness training and combat.
After completing the journey in seven hours, ten minutes, the group successfully raised £1,037 to support Stepway, a military charity in Worcestershire that aids veterans and their families in transitioning to civilian life.
Sophie Round, one of the Rooftop’s Veteran Champions, said: “This is an incredibly impactful experience. Starting at the Norton Barracks Memorial and finishing at Evesham War Memorial, I was reminded of the miles soldiers had marched in search of safety and security. Walking as a team and carrying the shared weight deepened my respect for those serving or have served.”
This fundraising event was part of Rooftop’s broader commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community. As a signatory of the Armed Forced Covenant, the Evesham-based housing association has actively worked on projects like St Helena Court in Norton to provide housing for veterans.
Rooftop was also awarded bronze status in the AFC Employer Recognition Scheme in September 2023.
