Worcester Women's charity football tournament banks cash for breast cancer

SISTERS were doing it for themselves when they took to the pitch for a charity football tournament in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The tournament, hosted by Worcester City Women FC, was held at Perdiswell Leisure Centre and brought together local businesses and the community for an evening of football and fundraising, with a total of £265 raised for Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven.

The five-a-side round robin tournament saw eight teams sign up, including representatives from Open Gi, GLP Training, Proxim Property Management, David Lloyd, Southco Manufacturing, HCR Law, Kick & Mix, and a team of Worcester City Women FC staff.

All teams competed across 10-minute matches, with a requirement for each team to field at least two women.

The donations will go to the Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven, to help the charity continue its vital work in offering care, guidance, and support to those affected by breast cancer in the Worcestershire area.

Nicole Allison, owner of Worcester City Women FC ,said: “It was fantastic to see community come together for our first tournament of this kind. We’re pleased to have raised money for such an important organisation during Breast Cancer Awareness Month and look forward to more tournaments in the future.”

Caroline Leah of Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven added: “We are grateful for the support from Worcester City Women FC and the participating businesses. The funds raised will support us in our ongoing care for those facing the challenges of breast cancer.”
