WORCESTER City Council is asking for the public’s views on how the cities trees should be managed over the next 25 years.
The Council is trying to produce a long-term plan for planting new trees and managing existing trees.
The tree strategy has a vision on how the urban treescape is expected to change over time – it aims to improve the area by 2050 and help the city adapt to effects of climate change.
Having a long-term tree strategy should help unlock future funding opportunities for new tree planting and support future partnership working.
The Council is asking people to give their thoughts on what they should focus on and how they will be able to volunteer.
Worcester City Council’s chair of the environment committee, coun Zoe Cookson said: “The Tree Strategy is an important piece of work which will set out how the City Council manages existing and plants new trees in parks and other council owned land over the next 25 years.
“Studies show that there is a direct link between improved mental health and areas with trees.”
Place and economic development committee chair, coun Robyn Norfolk added: “The Strategy will provide a long-term plan for where trees will be positioned in our urban areas.
“Trees in urban areas can have a significant and real impact on improving the look and feel of our city for residents and visitors.
“For the strategy to be successful and represent as many views as possible, it’s important to have input from a wide range of people and groups from across our city at this early stage in the preparation of this important piece of work.”
