REFURBISHMENT work at the Green Community Hub in Worcester’s Dines Green area has created a new digital skills space, providing local residents with a modern environment to enhance their digital literacy.
The transformation of this community hub is the first step in a series of refurbishments funded by the Towns Fund scheme, aimed at revitalising five hubs across Worcester.
The Green Community Hub’s new digital skills area is designed to offer a comfortable setting where community members can develop essential digital skills.
Worcester Community Trust, in partnership with Worcester City Council, started the project to create more appealing learning environments in the city’s community hubs.
The programme included hiring a digital skills advisor, who will conduct drop-in sessions and deliver courses funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
These sessions are tailored to meet various needs, such as helping parents ensure their children’s online safety, assisting older adults in navigating the internet for tasks like bill payments, and supporting job seekers with CV writing.
Helen Davies, deputy CEO at Worcester Community Trust, said: “It has been wonderful to see the Hub receive some tender loving care after all these years and local residents are already delighted with the changes.”
Coun Jill Desayrah, vice-chair of the communities committee at Worcester City Council, added: “Helping people to build digital skills is so important, as almost every strand of modern life involves the digital world.
“This refurbishment work has resulted in a comfortable working environment where people can focus on their learning.
“We now look forward to witnessing the positive impact these changes will make.”
The project will also see refurbishments at the Tolladine, Ronkswood, KGV, and Horizon Hubs, with work already underway.
