WORCESTER’S brand new all-weather sports pitch works have been completed, which cost over £824,000.

There will be an official opening of Perdiswell Leisure Centre in September, when sports teams start up competitions again.

The pitch is in use for casual bookings until the opening.

Chair of Worcester City Council’s communities committee, Coun Jabba Riaz, said: “I’m delighted that work has been completed on this important all-weather pitch.

“The pitch is an important asset to the community and will benefit people of all ages and abilities.

“From boys and girls starting out on their sporting journey through to older age groups participating in walking football, this pitch is for everybody.

“The facility also means that some local teams no longer have to travel outside of Worcester for their training and match requirements.”

Freedom Leisure operates leisure centres on behalf of Worcester City Council and will manage bookings at the all-weather sports pitch.

Freedom Leisure area manager Rob Tyler said: “We have been delighted to work in partnership with Worcester City Council to bring this fabulous 3G pitch to Worcester.

“We are committed to improving lives through leisure and we are sure that the new facility at Perdiswell will make a huge difference to the people of Worcester.”

The project has cost a total of £824,000, and £624,000 was funded by The Football Foundation, with the difference made up by Worcester City Council.
