Worcester homeless charity urges people for more support

WORCESTERSHIRE homeless charity is urging people for support during the summer months to meet growing demand.

Maggs Day Centre has launched ‘There are no holidays for homelessness’ to raise cash for the charity.

Melissa Blewitt, the marketing and relations manager, said: “As a charity, we’re fortunate that during the festive months, we are always overwhelmed with the generosity of our supporters.

“Whether your support comes in the form of monetary, gifts in kind or volunteering time, we’re extremely grateful for the kindness of our supporters and know that it truly helps us and our service users.

“However, during the Summer months, we experience a significant decrease in donations each year, which can have a huge impact on our service delivery.

“Understandably, people are enjoying time away, whether this be time off from work or jetting off to somewhere hot and maintaining charity support isn’t a priority.

“However, homelessness doesn’t go anywhere, and our service users suffer dramatically with the hotter temperatures so that’s why Maggs is raising awareness for our cause to ensure our services can continue to keep serving those in the community.”

According to the 2022’s official head count, by head of population over 20 people were rough sleeping in Worcester.

Stephanie Maton, volunteer coordinator and clothing project lead added: “Last year we welcomed over 1400 people alone to our Clothing Project, so if you have any of these items lying around or can add to your basket whilst shopping, please contact the team or visit us at our Clothing Project in the Tything or simply donate via our website.

“All of these vital items can change a life.”

Maggs hosts two open door day centres in Worcester and Malvern, alongside four properties through the accommodation project, which temporarily houses rough sleepers and provides them with tailored support to further their journey.
