THE MAYOR OF Worcester is raising money for a children’s charity – Perdiswell Young People’s Leisure Club.

Coun Mel Allcott has been elected as the Mayor of Worcester, taking over the chain of office from Cllr Louis Stephen.

Mayor Allcott said: “It is a real privilege and a pleasure to be able to serve Worcester city.

“My theme for this year is Youth Matters. Young people face an ever challenging and complicated environment.

“I feel that they can be too easily forgotten and are less likely than adults to speak up, they need support and they need a voice.

“Perdiswell Young People’s Leisure Club was formed in 1976 in an old wartime asbestos Nissen hut.

“It gained charitable status in 1986 and is now in a much more modern building and known to many simply as the ‘blue roof’.

“Keeping with its original objectives, ‘blue roof’ provides educational and leisure time activities and facilities and supports charitable purposes in the local community. “

Coun Allcott was born and raised in Worcester and attended Bishop Perowne High School – her partner Andrew is her Consort and her two back-up Consorts are Mike Mullins and Stuart Wild.
