Worcester active travel scheme gets cash boost

Worcester Editorial 27th Mar, 2024   0

PLANS to develop more active transport links in Worcester have been given a £289,000 cash boost.

The additional funding, provided by the Department for Transport, will be invested into easier ways to actively travel between Diglis and Norton village.

Works will introduce two new Toucan crossings, built for people and bikes, as well as a series of drop-kerb and tactile crossing installations.

The improvements will aim to make it safer for those with mobility and sight issues to safely travel.

The cash will also see new bollards and benches introduced along Norton Road.

The additional cash will add to the work carried out in recent years to upgrade cycling and walking routes along the riverside.

Worcester’s MP Robin Walker said: “I am pleased to see the continued funding of active travel projects in Worcester, linking up with other areas of the city to produce a fully interlinked active travel community.

“This investment will extend the cycling and walking routes along the river and improve Worcester’s connectivity.

“This North-South route will make better use of the additional crossings on the link road and will help form a better interconnected green transport network for Worcester.”
