The play, which made its debut in the city in 2022, retells the classic story of the Last Supper, Judas’ betrayal and the crucifixion as well as Jesus’ resurrection on Easter Sunday.

This year’s edition will take place in Cathedral Square on Good Friday (March 29) at 10.30am in Cathedral Square.

Over the past two years, the cast has featured actors with varying experience in performing, with many of them being members of local churches.

Last year, an audience of hundreds at the remarkable production, which sees Worcester transported back to 33AD complete with spears, swords and authentic attire from the era.

The ambitious play always features a setpiece showing Jesus’ crucifixion, during which the actor playing the son of God is tied to a large cross by rope.

People across Worcestershire have donated thousands to help Passion Play committee members hold the production.

A Passion Play spokesperson said: “If you were there last year I’m sure you’ll agree it was a powerful and emotional performance.

“We’d love to see the Square packed again this year and we’d really appreciate any donations.

“So please let others know this is happening, and if you belong to a local church, please encourage your leaders to promote the event and get the church involved.”
