Worcester on the lookout for on-call firefighters

Worcester Editorial 3rd Oct, 2023   0

WORCESTER is on the lookout for new on-call firefighters to serve the Faithful City.

Awareness sessions for the role, which people will be able to fulfil alongside their day jobs, are planned at 5.30pm and 7pm next Wednesday, October 11 at Worcester Fire Station.

A second session will also be held at 7pm on Thursday, October 19.

The sessions will give people an opportunity to have a go at some role-related activities and learn more about an on-call firefighter’s duties.

Duties include fighting fires as well as helping to deal with incidents such as road traffic collisions and floods.

Recruits may also be asked to carry out a home safety visit, talk to the community about fire safety or help support a campaign.

On-call firefighters will need to attend a weekly training session, usually on a weekday evening.

Any potential recruits must be aged over 18 and work or live within five minutes of the fire station.

Full training, uniform and personal development are also provided.
