A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of shoplifting in Worcester city centre this morning (Wednesday, August 16).
West Mercia Police officers chased a suspect on foot following reports of theft from a store on The Shambles.
A man was later tracked down and arrested at around 10.40am, after being found in a garden on Timberdine Avenue before being taken into custody.
City centre police were supported by officers from the new Neighbourhood Crime Fighting Team who were also on patrol in the area at the time.
The 34-year-old remains in custody.
A spokesperson for Worcester Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “This was a great result for the community, apprehending and arresting a suspected shoplifter so swiftly after the alarm was raised.”
