BUILDING projects at five Worcester schools have been handed a boost after they won funding from a £450million Government funding pot.

Christopher Whitehead Language College, Hollymount School, Norton Juxta Kempsey CE School, Nunnery Wood Primary School and Honeywell Primary School will all benefit from the Condition Improvement Fund.

More than 1,000 projects at 859 academies, sixth form colleges and voluntary aided schools earn investment to deliver safe, well-maintained buildings to support a high-quality education for pupils.

Among those to benefit is Hollymount School in Rainbow Hill which will use the funding it receives to carry out urgent fire safety works at the school.

Christopher Whitehead Language College on Bromwich Road will benefit from funding to recover a flat roof on the school building including consequential repairs.

Norton Juxta Kempsey CofE School on Wadborough Road will receive funding to carry out works to replace an ageing roof of the school building.

Meanwhile Nunnery Wood Primary School will finance a flat roofing replacement at the school and Honeywell Primary School will make use of their funding to carry out fire safety improvement works.

Worcester’s MP and former Schools Minister Robin Walker, who now chairs the influential Education Select Committee, welcomed the funding boost for the city’s schools.

“The investment from the Government ensures British pupils have a safe, wellmaintained, and high-quality facilities in which they can benefit from our world-class education,” he said.

“I welcome the news that the Government is investing an additional £456million into our school buildings across the country, delivering more than 1,000 building improvement projects, including at four schools in Worcester.

“Last week, I was pleased to share the news England was ranked fourth in the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study 2023.

“This accolade represents the excellent results of Government investment in our children’s education and shows that we must continue to ensure as many children as possible have the facilities to learn in,” he added.

Minister for the School System, Baroness Diana Barran MBE said: “Our Condition Improvement Fund has already completed more than 11,000 projects, making a difference to pupils and teachers across the country.

“It’s hugely important every school has access to high-quality learning facilities and these funding allocations will make sure that responsible bodies can start to plan ahead and get projects started to replace roofs, boilers and windows – so pupils and teachers can learn and work in a comfortable space.”
