YOUNGSTERS from RGS The Grange collaborated with architecture students from Loughborough University to create ‘The Classroom of the Future’ following a series of joint workshops.
Pupils had the opportunity to participate in the live project when students from the school of architecture visited RGS The Grange.
The visit included a site survey and idea generation exercises to help inform the design.
Students and pupils worked together to share ideas on what would be the most important factors in productive learning for a classroom environment.
A return visit saw the pupils from RGS The Grange attend the Loughborough School of Architecture’s design studio to see their ideas brought to life in virtual reality.
The pupils provided design feedback to the students before final presentations were made.
When the final day of presentation arrived, the work of the Architecture students inspired the School pupils and helped them to experience the opportunities available through Architecture.
The pupils benefited from developing real-world skills; working in a team as well as giving and receiving constructive feedback. The project bought to life the world of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) engaging the pupils and developing the curriculum.
The project forms part of the STEAM curriculum at RGS The Grange providing the pupils with a truly hands on experience.
